Team Sentrylink

“Sentrylinkkk,security is a rice not a village” (Actually its security is a right and not a priviledge). this was our team slogan haha!

2026 i would say has been the year where things just happened to me,i mean good things. one of them was the 10th annual career and innovation fair and i had the opportunity to be part of one the best teams i would say i have worked with in the 22 years of my existence lol! . to begin with i would like to share how this team was formed and what we achieved.

The beginnings

its 24 june 2026,7:00pm and i send the text that got me into the team lol,the text reads “theo this year you go go the innovation fair”(in Pidgin). but the first thing i would like to talk about is the innovation fair. you might be wondering what is it right ?? .. yeah the UMaT career and innovation fair is an annual event organised by the university to allow students showcase the stuff they have been able to build up (they say its innovation).And theo had been going since year two.

My first meet up with theo(@babyface) was that same evening.. because he said he was cooking up something for the fair.I met him and he showed me a demo of an app he had built and named “sentrylink”, i dont know why he choose that name and how we also used it as the team name,but i guess it just happened.That evening we made some discussions with another team member,arthur moses,and then we decided on what to do next. this was not really any big deal. just three tech people sharing ideas on what something could be like.

Team formation

I personally think the best teams are not the teams where everyone is perfect or best, but its the one that everyone on the team has something they are very good at and are willing to bring it onboard and the mindset to work as a team to achieve one goal. fortunatly those we the people we got for our team. the team was to have 6 people,ben joined and then later judah and Muka (her) joined.

preps

this team above had just two weeks to prepare for the innovation fair. i would say we had some things implemented already,like our app idea, but then it needed some finishing and theo was working on that. ben,judah and then moses was working on the presentation document(pptx) and i was working on the ussd aspect of the software. i might say the brainstorming in the sentrylink group chat was very nice lol! theo was always using the middle finger emoji(not insulting but for weird reasons,lol), but then the understanding was there and we all agreed on the best thing for the team tho.lt was like we knew each other already chaleee!

go hard or go home

haha!,go hard or go home. this was a thing we said whiles preparing for the competition and i would say it helped us very much. it helped Muka cram a presentation that felt more like a TED talk, it made the rest of the team stay up at night,even the point where we lost fate “we go hard or go home”. at this point, i want to tell you why we even adopted this mentality.

the innovation fair starts from the semi-finals, and it’s a two-day program. the teams that made it to the semi-finals were selected from a pool of teams, so you should now understand that we had fought hard to even get to this stage. and all of this had been done by theo way before we even joined the team.

the teams that were kicked out at the semi-final stage went home with nothing. we didn’t want to go home with nothing, so we had to go hard or go home lol! and i guess now you know.

days to the event

we left our campus to tarkwa on tuesday because some people had to also compete in the hackathon that was part of the event on the wednesday,and from my head as small as it is, i remember we got there around 3pm and we settled in. boys boys had their things settled and then we started brainstorming, but first we had to watch argentina vrs egypt (one of the best matches of the 2k26 world cup).
